As the United States faces economic uncertainty in many sectors, property owners across the country are looking at solar energy to generate stable revenues—via land lease payments from solar developers like YSG Solar. Below we have outlined a few key questions and answers for property owners in the North East to review.

How does it work?

We take care of the entire process—from solar farm land lease to operational project. We only offer leases on sites we know we can develop. Once a lease is signed, we can start the development process. Our team of engineers and other specialists take care of permitting, as well as any environmental regulations required to get the project to construction. Usually, from the time we break ground until the crews are out on site, only takes about three months.

What are the benefits?

Solar farm land leases allow farmers to diversify their revenue stream and use land that may not be productive otherwise. We’re not brokers or land agents, so we can offer premium lease rates for a 25+ year term. That means stable income each year with no risk.

How much land do you need for a solar farm?

For a solar farm land lease, we need a minimum amount of around 10 acres, and can develop on land up to 40 acres. If you don’t have enough land, we can also group land parcels together to get enough land for a solar farm land lease.

Can I lease my land for a solar farm?

In short, yes. Before we offer a land lease, we do a thorough assessment of the land. Key factors we look for include proximity to a three-phase power line and proximity to a substation.

How big is a 1 MW solar farm?

A 1 MW solar farm takes about 5 acres but usually we develop projects at a minimum of 5 MW. This can take around 25 acres but it depends on the terrain. If there are wetlands or other physical features that we cannot build on, more land will be required.
