YSG Solar, Community Solar, NYC, Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, Staten Island, Queens
March 4, 2020

As of February 15, 2020, New York has 1 GW of community solar and shared solar projects in the development pipeline. These projects are located throughout the state of New York, providing access to clean, affordable energy in Long Island, New York City, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx.

Community solar is one of the few products providing competitive, transparent solutions—and a real alternative to the traditional monopoly of the utility company. When most people hear about community solar, they think it's an ESCO (Energy Service Company). For those of you not in the energy market, an ESCO follows a specific business model. They knock on your door, and have been known to give a low price for the first month, only to slowly increase costs each month to the point where you are actually spending more money than you were originally. This has put a black eye on the retail energy industry, stimulating the NYS PSC to implement regulations such as the DER oversight order.

Fast forward to community solar & shared solar. This is a product which folks can subscribe to, saving them money on the supply and delivery portion of their utility bill. It could even go as far as essentially eliminating their energy bills—depending on the quantity of energy that they have subscribed for. YSG Solar's product offers a 10% discount compared to the value of each energy credit you subscribe to.

YSG Solar currently has community solar projects located in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, NY. YSG Solar’s newest community venture, The Pitkin Project, is a community solar system located in an IRS-designated opportunity zone, providing low-cost affordable power to the low-and-moderate income community of East New York, Brooklyn. YSG has removed all of the barriers to entry—we have no credit checks, no transfer fees, no cancellation fees, and no early termination fees. YSG is making it easy for everyone to sign up and enjoy the economic and environmental savings of community solar power.
