Solar panels on flat roof

Why leasing your roof for solar is a no-brainer

According to Energysage, solar is now the cheapest and most abundant energy source in the world. With over one million solar systems installed in the U.S. alone (and that number is increasing rapidly), it’s time to look into a solar system for your roof.

Most people think that installing solar panels on your roof is for personal consumption only, but there are other options available. At YSG Solar, we’ll pay you to let us install a solar system on your roof! What an easy way to make money off a piece of property that you weren't using anyway.

This is the perfect option for your business if your building doesn’t use that much electricity but you have a lot of excess property. The energy that your solar system creates will be sold to “off-takers” which are other businesses, organizations, or homeowners for consumption. Typically, these off-takers want the environmental and economic benefits of solar power, but don’t have the space to build their own solar systems.

According to the US Department of Energy, roughly 75% of businesses and homeowners are not able to harness the clean, renewable energy of the sun on their own. There are various reasons for this including, roof size, shade from other buildings and unsuitable landscape conditions. This means that your unused piece of roof or property is in high demand. By leasing your roof, you’re supporting clean energy in your community and making money while doing it!

You’re not using the electricity that the solar panels are creating so what’s in it for you? Don’t forget, you’re getting paid to have solar panels on your roof and you’re helping the environment. Solar panels don’t emit any harmful greenhouse gases, they are silent and can be hidden on your roof. With solar panels, the energy is renewable and constantly accessible, using energy from the sun will not deplete it. Leasing your roof for solar is a great opportunity to show your customers that you’re committed to making a positive impact on the environment. This will be especially appealing to customers that are passionate about the environment.

There are a few things we’ll look at to make sure your roof is eligible to lease. Solar panels have a lifespan of 25+ years so it’s important that the area won’t need any adjustments or construction that will affect the solar system. The roof should be less than 10 years old in order to support the solar system that is set up. The sun should hit the roof directly with no obstructions, such as shade from other trees or buildings, to make sure the panels are working as efficiently as possible.

If your roof fits these requirements or if you’re unsure, contact us today to set up a site assessment of your property or call us at 516.855.7283.
