Energy Storage Farm, Solar Panels, YSG Solar

Energy storage farms or energy storage parks are standalone energy storage facilities. These types of projects may also be known as "FTM" (front-of-the-meter) facilities. Energy storage farms are comprised of a group of energy storage containers that include batteries, controllers, inverters, HVAC equipment, and transformers. Energy storage facilities will have an output capacity rating and also be sized to discharge energy for a certain duration of time. This duration of time may vary depending on the region, as well as certain technical or financial hurdle requirements.

In New York State the NYISO requires a minimum of a 4-hour discharge to participate in the ICAP wholesale power market. With the cost of energy storage systems steadily declining we will continue to see an increase in energy storage farms. Locating energy storage farms near load pockets may defer major transmission & distribution upgrades and/or substation upgrades.

Energy storage farms also have the ability to replace traditional "peaker plants". Peaker plants usually come with drastic negative environmental impacts and many other inefficiencies. These peaker plants are traditionally fueled by coal, oil and or by natural gas.

Keep an eye on thriving energy storage markets such as:

  • New York

  • New Jersey

  • Pennsylvania

  • Illinois

  • Minnesota

  • California

  • Arizona

  • Massachusetts

  • Long Island, NY
