YSG Solar | Hamptons, Long Island, New York
June 11, 2019

We’ve spoken before about New York being one of the best solar states in the country, with great incentives and ambitious clean energy targets, but today we’re going to focus on a particular part of New York - Long Island. That iconic piece of land stretching out into the Atlantic has been one of YSG Solar’s most popular solar panel locations down through the years and with good reason. Like all New Yorkers, residents of Long Island have access to great incentives and rebates and are well-positioned to take advantage of the benefits of solar energy. So, if you’re a Long Island resident interested in going solar, we’ve got a few tips to make sure you pick the best solar installer for your project.

#1. Certifications

This one almost goes without saying… but let’s say it anyway just to be safe. Any reputable solar panel installer will be fully certified and accredited to carry out solar installations on Long Island. You’ll want to be sure that the installer you’re allowing up on your roof knows what they’re doing and will install the solar system according to state regulations. What you want to look out for here is NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification, the gold standard for solar companies in Long Island, New York, and the United States.

#2. Reviews & Recommendations

Thanks to the internet it is now very easy to gauge the ability and reputation of a solar company with the help of sites like Yelp and Better Business Bureau. Companies with strong rankings on these sites are generally trustworthy, but, of course, there’s no better recommendation than that of a friend, neighbor or family member. If you know anyone else on Long Island who has gone solar in the past, be sure to seek their advice. In fact, at YSG Solar, we offer a fantastic referral reward for past customers who send a new solar convert our way! They get their reward and you get a new solar system for your property.

#3. Home Visit

Emails, phone calls and FaceTime are great tools, but there’s nothing quite like the real thing. If you want to have a real, in-person meeting to get to grips with your solar project, a great solar company will be more than willing to arrange this. If you’re new to the whole solar game, wrapping your head around a barrage of information can be tricky at first, so a home visit is a great way to get to know your installer and really quiz them about your potential new solar array.

#4. Warranty

Solar panels are built to last. They’re robust and durable with lengthy lifespans, so it’s important that your chosen solar company offers a warranty that satisfies your needs. Given the long-lasting nature of solar panel installations, most Long Island solar installers will offer warranties upwards of twenty years. It’s unlikely that any company will offer less than this, but always be sure to check. In addition, there may be different warranties for different pieces of equipment involved in the installation, so do ask for details of manufacturer warranties as well.

#5. Financing Options

At the end of the day a solar panel installation is an investment, so you’ll want to make sure that everything makes sense financially. The big draw of a solar panel installation for many of our Long Island customers is the range of wonderful incentives and rebates on offer, along with the safe return on investment offered by a solar system. With this in mind, be sure that you understand the financing approach on offer so that you extract the most value possible from your new solar venture. Solar offers the potential for great savings, so make sure your solar company is helping to maximize these savings!
