The New York Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved an Order Establishing a Net Metering Successor Tariff. The Order was approved by the PSC at a Public Service Commission session on 7/16/20. All solar projects currently receiving net metering (residential projects and behind-the-meter non-residential projects <750 kW) are subject to the changes outlined in the Order.
These changes include, but are not limited to, the following:
Availability of Phase One Net Metering (NEM) for projects interconnected before January 1, 2022. Projects qualifying for NEM will continue to receive it for twenty years from the interconnection date.
For projects interconnected on/after January 1, 2022, they will receive NEM, but will also be charged a Customer Benefit Contribution (CBC) each month. This is based on the DC nameplate rating of the solar PV system.
The initial calculation of the CBC is expected to come in somewhere between $0.69-$1.30/kW DC per month, depending on service class & location. The charge will appear on the customer’s electric bill each month.
