NYSERDA president and CEO Alicia Barton has shared NYSERDA’s 2020-2023 Strategic Outlook, outlining the goals and objectives of New York’s renewable energy sector in the coming years.

Last year saw huge movement in terms of climate action and this looks set to be a recurring trend in years to come. 2019 was the year of the Green New Deal, as well as the signing of the New York State Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). These landmark measures will play a huge role in determining clean energy policy in the fight against climate change.

Some of New York’s most notable goals for the future include:

  • Carbon-free electricity system by 2040

  • 85% reduction in GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by 2050

  • A carbon neutral economy, inclusive of transportation, buildings, and industrial production

NYSERDA has marked itself out as a key player in the fight against climate change, the preservation of the natural environment, and the development of a renewable, carbon neutral economy. With this in mind, NYSERDA has outlined its key objectives and strategic focus areas for the coming years. Efforts to support decarbonization of transport, energy affordability, building electrification, and the establishment of a resilient energy system comprise a big part of NYSERDA’s 2020-2023 Strategic Outlook. These efforts will be undertaken in order to achieve NYSERDA’s 5 mission outcomes, noted below.

NYSERDA’s 5 Mission Outcomes

  • GHG Emissions Reduction

  • Renewable Energy

  • Energy Efficiency
